Couple’s Guide to Celebrate Oktoberfest Party at Home

Are you planning a romantic Oktoberfest with your better half? Let’s be honest, Oktoberfest is not quite fairytales per se.  But when you plan it right and know what to expect, it can be a lovely experience for the two of you.

Oktoberfest Outfit, Oktoberfest & A Love Story

Oktoberfest was born in a celebration of love, with the royal nuptials of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. The Couple invited the entire Munich to attend their wedding celebrations. The city turned up in their signature Oktoberfest outfit –Lederhosen and Dirndls. The merriment lasted more than two weeks, and the outfits increased the jubilant nature of the wedding celebration.

The festivities were held in the fields in front of the city gates. Those fields were then christened as Theresienwiese – Therese’s fields, in honor of the blue blood Princess. The celebrations were a huge hit, thus becoming a yearly tradition. Like a fine wine, this party kept getting bigger, better, and wilder, eventually giving birth to Oktoberfest.

This year, it is your chance to bring the craziness of the Oktoberfest to your home. But what should you wear?

Top Oktoberfest Beers – More the Better

The Beer and Oktoberfest go way back when Oktoberfest was only beginning. Germans love their Beer, and it shows (fun fact, you can marinate your Oktoberfest meat dishes in Beer too). In Oktoberfest, waitresses are seen juggling 7 to 8 beer pints and running around. As it is your Couple’s Oktoberfest Party, share this fun activity with your partner, and make a game out of it. Time their Beer pouring and delivery activities, plus put additional points on no-spill deliveries. Something fun and teasing worthy of doing.

You can find plenty of Beer varieties that are called “Oktoberfest”, still, if you want to experience authentic Oktoberfest Beers, look for breweries that supply Beer in Oktoberfest tents.

Oktoberfest breweries supply their Beers throughout the world, including the USA. Stock up on these, and you are good to go.

Also, if you are more of a free-spirit, there is an entire stash of craft Beers that are Oktoberfest-inspired; these range from malty toasty and are around 6% ABV. Get a ton of these Beers and throw them in a tasting booth for a fun activity.

Before chugging the lovely amber liquid down, remember to say “Prost”, which means “Cheers” in German.

Couple’s Oktoberfest Party Décor & Essentials

The beer tents at Oktoberfest fields are ultra-modern structures that are gigantic in look and feel. You can hang your own miniature Oktoberfest tents in your living room or backyard and add to the ambiance of your Couple’s Oktoberfest party.

Décor – Tent or not, the Oktoberfest decorations are essential to your Couple’s Oktoberfest. Use traditional Bavarian blue and white décor for your space. To create the traditional Oktoberfest theme, hang up some German or Bavarian flags, slogans, banners, wreaths, streamers, or flowers. Create your party theme by incorporating these authentic elements and giving it a more welcome feel.

Steins – Get some authentic glasses to drink your Beer in German style or use them as décor! Fill some of your steins with German candies, pretzel sticks, or something you or your partner likes.

Bavarian Flags – Blue and white are the official colors of Bavaria. Find some blue and white ornaments, flags, banners, posters, plates and tablecloths from your local store or your craft drawers to make some handy décors for the party.

Oktoberfest Activities – At Home Games

When it comes to Oktoberfest activities, the list is endless, from games to beer competitions to singing and dancing; what have you. Below is a list of games and activities you can use at your Couple’s Oktoberfest party.

Pretzel Toss – Get your partner and stand approximately 10 feet away from them; now see how many pretzels they can catch in an empty bag under one minute, time it with your stop-watch.

Stein Weights – Grab two steins, fill them up with Beer for extra fun, now hold out a stein straight in your arm, start your stop-watch, wait and see who lasts the longest between the two of you. An excellent way to earn the chill beer after this intense workout, Ja?

Rod Race – Take a pretzel rod each, place it in the mouth, now balance a pretzel on the rod through its holes. Put your hands behind your back, spin around three times and race to the finish line without dropping the pretzels. You know the rules, the first one to reach the finish line, wins.

Stein Run – One person team, fill up a full-size stein to the brim (we recommend using water for this, don’t waste good Beer), Brisk walk or run fast to the finish point without spilling the liquid. The fastest person with the lowest spill wins.

Beer Chugging – Fill up your Beer stein, and chug it down; you can stand up for this and put on some cheering voices on your phone. You guessed it, the fastest person to finish their Beer without many spills, wins the game.

These games might not be authentic, but they sure will liven up your Couple’s Oktoberfest Party. Pull out your Lederhosen and Dirndls and sing Bavarian songs while drinking. Bring Oktoberfest to your town, home, or backyard.

The Ambiance – As you know, Oktoberfest is a fantastic festival with tens of thousands of people gathering and having a vast drunken party. Eat, drink, dance and sing lively songs together, enjoy your life – and frankly, you could use the break, right?

Playlist Oktoberfest Party – Music

Hiring a traditional German band would have been ideal for the live Oktoberfest music, but are we that fancy?

It would help if you played music at your Couple’s Oktoberfest Party; it is a great way to entertain your partner and yourself.

It is also essential to understand that oompah music is not the only music played at Oktoberfest. You can play some groovy English songs and dance to the energetic tunes.

Arrange your playlist to put on “Ein Prosit” every 30 minutes or so. When it comes on, like they do in Munich, stand up, raise your glasses and sing along. Clink your steins and drink to the celebration of life.

Pro Tip – Print some lyric cards with translation, so you and your partner can follow along. You are welcome.

Oktoberfest Glassware

Glassware is essential to Oktoberfest or any other event where Beer is served in such large quantities; your Couple’s Oktoberfest Party at home is no exception. To achieve that traditional Oktoberfest feel, splurge on some Maß or Maßkrug. It is advised to use real glass Maß or Maßkrug for your party but if you are nervous about using real glass, use plastic Maß and Maßkrug. Both are available online with many good retailers.
